Calabogie: complete testing and commissioning of a hydroelectric redevelopment
From HV switching through to digital protection testing, for SNC-Sullivan / OPG.
Calabogie generating station (OPG), on the Madawaska River, has generated power since 1917. Its century-old powerhouse was replaced by a new station that roughly doubles capacity, from about 5 to about 11 MW. FORWA worked for SNC-Sullivan Joint Venture on complete testing and commissioning of the redevelopment. Over close to two years and nearly 3,000 hours: generator and auxiliary testing, outdoor substation testing and commissioning, 5 kV breaker and cable testing, generator and transformer protection (SEL-487E and T60 relays), teleprotection and communications validation, input/output verification, and isolation, lockout-tagout and re-energization procedures.
